How to evaluate mixed results on the placement assessment

If your child places on different levels for math and language arts, it is easy to buy the language arts/science/social studies curriculum at a separate level from math on our website.  Many children will be stronger in one area or the other.

If your child is different in their reading and writing skills within the assessment, we usually recommend that you purchase the appropriate level for their writing ability.  You will want to make sure they are meeting the prerequisites for the writing portion before buying a level.  Being an advanced reader is common but it is unusual to be an advanced writer, and we want children to be placed where they can do the work comfortably without frustration.

There are many ways to deepen the learning in our curriculum for an advanced learner without pushing them ahead grade-wise. First, we have differentiated activities on most of the daily activities within the curriculum.  This means that there are two options for completion, with Option 2 being more difficult or involved.   This will allow you to level-up an activity if your child is ready for more of a challenge (sometimes children will choose option 2 if the topic interests them as well).  Also, the projects and papers that are done at the end of each unit often have options for completion.  This will allow students to pick not only what type of work interests them (drawing or writing, powerpoint or poster, etc.) but also what is in their ability range.  Our curriculum was designed so that there are multiple opportunities for children to deepen their learning when their interests and abilities allow.
